The Fruits of the Spirit

So for many years I had always heard Christains talking about how you know other Christains by their fruit. I never really knew what that meant. What fruit? We aren't trees so we don't produce "fruit". So by using the word fruit implies that we are giving something. I have finally learned what these "fruits" are.

Here's a list;
* Love
* Joy
* Peace
* Kindness
* Goodness
* Faithfulness
* Gentleness
* Self Control

In Galatians 5:22-26 it tells us,

"But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature together with its passions and appetites. If we [claim to] live by the [Holy] Spirit, we must also walk by the Spirit [with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage--our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit]. We must not become conceited, challenging or provoking one another, envying one another."

So when these are the fruits we are to be producing, sharing, and living by; it makes sense not to live by your emotions and let them control you. Now please note not one time have I said this to be easy... It's very hard, especially when you are first starting. I will tell you though that with time, it does gradually get easier... Through trial after trial in which with each one we are tested and given another chance to practice what is right.

I encourage you to put off the former self and to put on the new self in Christ Jesus, may He help you and guide you in doing and acting upon what is right

Ephesians 4:22-24
that, regarding your previous way of life, you put off your old self [completely discard your former nature], which is being corrupted through deceitful desires, and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude], and put on the new self [the regenerated and renewed nature], created in God’s image, [godlike] in the righteousness and holiness of the truth [living in a way that expresses to God your gratitude for your salvation].

Colossians 3:9-10
Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new [spiritual] self who is being continually renewed in true knowledge in the image of Him who created the new self--
