Secretly Giving?

Hey y'all! Today's scripture actually fits perfectly for my "Teaching Tuesday Thread", at least for me it does.

But when you give to the poor and do acts of kindness, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing [give in complete secrecy],
Matthew 6:3 AMP

Wow, this blew my mind!  Keep our giving a secret? Is God really serious? Could He possibly really mean that? The answer is yes! Obviously, since this is scripture, then this is the Word of God. You can plainly see that God is making an absolute serious point with the context used, "Do not let you left hand know what your right hand is doing". That's how serious a secret is meant. The same metaphor is used in the NIV translation as well.

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
Matthew 6:3 NIV

In my opinion, this is definitely relevant in today's society with sooo many social medias, networking sites/apps that are constantly wanting you to share your life. With such a great thing to do as unselfishly giving, why not share that act of kindness?

Take a moment and really think about that. Why would you really want to share that moment? What is the real reason (motive) for SHARING it with EVERYONE? Is it because you want people to know you have a giving heart? You want to share that you are doing something good? (Are you trying to prove something to others) While that act of kindness is good, not sharing it is better so that the real motive for doing that act of kindness stays pure. Sharing it with everyone can quickly turn into boasting. Now I'm not saying that everything that everyone shares is this case. I'm trying to say that we need to be mindful. We need to really take the Word of God seriously; take our thoughts and actions captive, and be ever mindful... If you're not sure, pray first. God would love that and he will answer... Much love and may peace be with you!
