Romans 10 Mini-series part 3

Hey y'all, welcome to this week's Teaching Tuesday Thread blog post. The last 2 weeks we have covered Romans 10:1-13. This week we will finish chapter 10. Next week I will discuss chapter 10 as a whole which will tie the mini-series together. Let's dive in!

Romans 10:14-21 AMP
But how will people call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how will they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher (messenger)? And how will they preach unless they are commissioned and sent [for that purpose]? Just as it is written and forever remains written, “H ow beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things !” But they did not all pay attention to the good news [of salvation]; for Isaiah says, “Lord , who has believed our report ?” So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ. But I say, did they not hear? Indeed they have; “T heir voice [that of creation bearing God’s message] has gone out to all the earth , A nd their words to the [farthest] ends of the world .” But I say, did Israel fail to understand [that the gospel was to go also to the Gentiles]? First Moses says, “I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation (Gentiles); W ith a nation that lacks understanding I will make you angry .” Then Isaiah is very bold and says, “I have been found by those who did not seek M e ; I have shown M yself to those who did not [consciously] ask for M e .” But of Israel he says, “A ll day long I have stretched out M y hands [in compassion] to a disobedient and obstinate people .”

Romans 10:14-21 TPT
But how can people call on him for help if they’ve not yet believed? And how can they believe in one they’ve not yet heard of? And how can they hear the message of life if there is no one there to proclaim it? And how can the message be proclaimed if messengers have yet to be sent? That’s why the Scriptures say: How welcome is the arrival of those proclaiming the joyful news of peace and of good things to come! But not everyone welcomes the good news, as Isaiah said: Lord, is there anyone who hears and believes our message? Faith, then, is birthed in a heart that responds to God’s anointed utterance of the Anointed One. Can it be that Israel hasn’t heard the message? No, they have heard it, for: The voice has been heard throughout the world, and its message has gone to the ends of the earth! So again I ask, didn’t Israel already understand that God’s message was for others as well as for themselves? Yes, they certainly did understand , for Moses was the first to state it: “I will make you jealous of a people who are ‘nobodies.’ And I will use people with no understanding to provoke you to anger.” And Isaiah the fearless prophet dared to declare: “Those who found me weren’t even seeking me. I manifested myself before those who weren’t even asking to know me!” Yet regarding Israel Isaiah says: “With love I have held out my hands day after day, offering myself to this unbelieving and stubborn people!”

Romans 10:14-21 MSG
But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them, unless someone is sent to do it? That’s why Scripture exclaims, A sight to take your breath away! Grand processions of people telling all the good things of God! But not everybody is ready for this, ready to see and hear and act. Isaiah asked what we all ask at one time or another: “Does anyone care, God? Is anyone listening and believing a word of it?” The point is: Before you trust, you have to listen. But unless Christ’s Word is preached, there’s nothing to listen to. But haven’t there been plenty of opportunities for Israel to listen and understand what’s going on? Plenty , I’d say. Preachers’ voices have gone ’round the world, Their message to earth’s seven seas. So the big question is, Why didn’t Israel understand that she had no corner on this message? Moses had it right when he predicted, When you see God reach out to those you consider your inferiors—outsiders!— you’ll become insanely jealous. When you see God reach out to people you think are religiously stupid, you’ll throw temper tantrums. Isaiah dared to speak out these words of God: People found and welcomed me who never so much as looked for me. And I found and welcomed people who had never even asked about me. Then he capped it with a damning indictment: Day after day after day, I beckoned Israel with open arms, And got nothing for my trouble but cold shoulders and icy stares.

Until next week, much love and may peace be with y'all!
